If this city would talk, it could tell some incredible stories.
Common used the platform of the NBA All-Star weekend to deliver an uplifting musical tribute to the Windy City and the many greats of culture and sports who’ve called Chicago home.
The rapper and actor took the stage ahead of the NBA All-Star game for a special history lesson. With poetry, he told a tale of hoop dreams, of “going beyond,” a place where Chaka Khan excelled, where Barack Obama came up, and where Michael Jordan won six rings.
NBA great Dwyane Wade was moved to tears when he earned a special shout out.
No doubt everyone in the room welled up when the late L.A. Lakers legend Kobe Bryant was celebrated as “a king” who “wore purple and gold.”
Earlier, Common tallied 10 points and four steals to earn MVP honors in the All-Star Celebrity Game.
