Thank you, next! Ariana Grande is joining NBC’s singing competition The Voice as one of the four coaches when it kicks off for season 21 this fall, the singer and network announced on Tuesday (March 30).
“surprise !!! i am beyond thrilled, honored, excited to be joining @kellyclarkson @johnlegend @blakeshelton next season ~ season 21 of @nbcthevoice!” Grande shared on social media. The “Positions” singer also revealed in her post that current coach Nick Jonas will not be returning. “@nickjonas we will miss you.”
The pop star also shared a statement via NBC: “I’m so honored and excited to join The Voice family! I have been a huge fan of the show for such a long time. I can’t wait to go head-to-head with the incredible coaches, get to know these new artists and help to take their craft to the next level.”
Jonas joined the show as a coach in season 18. He took season 19 off, but returned for the current round of competition, its 20th season. After the announcement about Grande was made, Jonas responded to her tweet to congratulate her on joining the long-running show. “You’re going to kill it next season!” he wrote. “Welcome to the family.”
Country star Shelton is the singing competition’s longest running coach, and has been with the show since it debuted in April 2011. Clarkson has been with the show since season 14, while Legend arrived in season 16. Carson Daly, who has also been with the show since the beginning, will return to host.
The Voice airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET on NBC.
