Five artists who’ve notched record-shattering No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200 are vying to win Top Billboard 200 artist at the 2020 Billboard Music Awards next week.
Ariana Grande said Thank U, Next (No. 1 album) when she released her fifth studio album just six months after Sweetener, and it launched the biggest streaming week ever for a pop album. Billie Eilish‘s When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? and Khalid‘s Free Spirit followed suit in logging the biggest opening weeks in the beginning of 2019.
But a few months later, Taylor Swift‘s beloved LP Lover set the biggest week for any album since her 2017 set Reputation with 867,000 equivalent album units within the first week; this could be the third time she wins Top Billboard 200 artist. Meanwhile, Post Malone‘s Hollywood’s Bleeding had the second-biggest week of 2019 for any album with 489,000 equivalent album units.
The 2020 Billboard Music Awards will air Wednesday, Oct. 14, at 8 p.m. ET, live from Los Angeles’ Dolby Theatre on NBC, with Kelly Clarkson returning for her third year as the evening’s host. The 2020 Billboard Music Awards are produced by dick clark productions, which is owned by MRC Entertainment, the parent company of Billboard.
