Little Big Town paid tribute to late country music icon Kenny Rogers at the CMA Awards Wednesday night (Nov. 11) with a touching performance of his fittingly titled 1977 hit, “Sweet Music Man.”
The four-piece group performed under spotlights at Nashville’s Music City Center, delivering angelic harmonies for the already emotional track. Rogers passed away from natural causes in March at the age of 81.
According to Taste of Country, Rogers wrote the beloved Daytime Friends song after a conversation he had with Jessi Colter, in which she shared her marriage troubles with Waylon Jennings.
Little Big Town was nominated for vocal group of the year at the 2020 CMA Awards.
The ceremony aired live with an audience sitting at socially distanced tables. Reba McEntire took on the hosting role for the fifth time, and Darius Rucker made his debut as the event’s co-host.
