Ariana Grande Bags Chart Double In U.K.

Positions logs 27,500 chart sales, including 27.6 million track streams, according to the Official Charts Company, to bow at No. 1 on the Official U.K. Albums Chart.

It’s Ari’s fourth consecutive leader on the survey, following Dangerous Woman (2016), Sweetener (2018), and Thank U, Next (2019).

Over on the Official U.K. Singles Chart, “Positions” enters a second week at No. 1, while two more tracks from the LP crack the Top 40. Grande’s “34+35” is new at No. 9 and “Motive” featuring Doja Cat is at No. 16, extending her list of U.K. Top 40 hits to 28.

She’s the fourth artist to achieve the chart double in 2020 (Drake, Eminem and Stormzy are the others), and the first female artist to score consecutive chart double wins in almost ten years (Rihanna did it in 2011).

Thanks to Grande’s chart domination, Sam Smith misses out on top spot with Love Goes (Capitol), new at No. 2 on the albums survey. It’s the end of a golden streak for Smith, whose previous two albums hit the summit of the national albums survey.

Veteran singer Cliff Richard rounds out an all-new Top 3 with Music… The Air That I Breathe (East West/Rhino). Music gives Richard his 46th Top 10 album and extends his run of chart success across eight decades, the OCC reports.

Sheffield rock outfit Bring Me The Horizon snag a fourth Top 10 with Post Human – Survival Horror (RCA), new at No. 5; and M Huncho earns his second Top 10 entry for 2020 with DNA (Hunchozone), his mixtape with Nafe Smallz, new at No. 6.

Also, Paul Weller’s The Style Council score their first Top 10 in 31 years with Long Hot Summers – The Story Of (Polydor/UMC), new at No. 8.

Finally, Scottish singer and songwriter Amy MacDonald lands a fifth straight Top 10 studio album with The Human Demands (Infectious Music). It’s new at No. 10.
