BTS extends its record for the most weeks spent at No. 1 on the Billboard Artist 100 chart among duos/groups, as the South Korean superstars tally an 18th week as the top musical act in the U.S. (on the chart dated July 31).
BTS holds at No. 1 thanks largely to its singles “Butter” and “Permission to Dance,” as the former returns to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 for an eighth week at No. 1, while the latter falls to No. 7 after debuting atop the ranking a week earlier. Notably, “Butter” ties Olivia Rodrigo’s “Drivers License” as the longest leading No. 1 this year.
Elsewhere on the Artist 100, John Mayer re-enters at No. 3, matching his peak, as his new album Sob Rock opens at No. 1 on Top Rock & Alternative Albums and No. 2 on the Billboard 200 with 84,000 equivalent album units, according to MRC Data. The set marks his eighth No. 1 on Top Rock & Alternative Albums, surpassing Bruce Springsteen for the most leaders since the chart began in 2006. Sob Rock is Mayer’s 10th top 10 on the Billboard 200.
Plus, the late Pop Smoke jumps from No. 31 to No. 4 on the Artist 100, as his second posthumous album, Faith, launches at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 (88,000 units). Pop Smoke spent a week atop the Artist 100 in July 2020 when his LP Shoot for the Stars Aim for the Moon opened atop the Billboard 200.
