Longstanding bass music producer Cookie Monsta, born Tony Cook, has died at age 31.
A statement released Friday (Oct. 2) by his label Circus Records states: “We are devastated, no words can contain our feelings on such a day. All of our thoughts go to Tony’s family, friend and our heart goes out especially to Tony’s son Olly the little Mini Monsta.”
No cause of death is being provided, with Circus stating, “Out of respect for Tony’s family, we will hold off on commenting any further until deemed appropriate.”
The UK-born producer was a veteran on the global bass music scene and played many of the world’s biggest dance music festivals, including Electric Daisy Carnival Las Vegas, Electric Zoo and Glastonbury.
On social media, the bass music community mourned the loss, with Never Say Die Records tweeting, “The scene has suffered a huge loss today. Rest in peace Cookie Monsta, a friend and an inspiration to so many,” and producer Downlink writing, “I remember passing tunes back and forth on the dubstepforum back in the day.. a true OG and pioneer of the dirty dubstep sound has left us.”
